On page 146 Shalit refers to a society that lost respect for female modesty and that men are not protective of women. I feel that men are always going to be protective of women. The best example that I can think of is the way most men are protective of their mothers. Men are also very protective of their wives as well.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Greg. I think most men naturally protect women. Male protection of women does not only exist physically in this sense, but emotionally as well. I wear my heart on my sleeve and it is obvious when I am upset about something. My male friends are among the first to inquire about my odd behavior and offer guidance in these situations.
